My new toy

Daddy decided I need more co-ordination skills and bought me a new toy, but guess what, I prefer the box:

I tried Cheese

Mummy decided since I am 8 months plus, it is time to be introduce to Mummy and Daddy's fav : Cheese.

Well, Mummy got to go all the way to Cold Storage jus to buy this, as she thought there will be more variety. Well, it tasted yummy and I love it. But it is a bit dry to the throat though

No Ernest tonight

Tonight is JY's company Dinner and Dance, Ernest will need to sleep over at MIL's place. *Sigh* Start missing him already! Will I be able to fall asleep tonight?

And my place having renovation, Town Council upgrading our flats, so dusty and noisy. Not good for Ernest to be here...

Ernest on Bumbo Chair

Hmmm... now I can see my fingers from top view

Oh, please adjust the seat, it is not very comfortable here.

Outing on 31st July 2008

Brought Ernest on an April Baby outing, and here's a few snap:

Ernest : May I borrow your hanky please?

Shevon : Don't disturb me! I am trying to catch some beauty sleep.

My milestones so far

Ernest is growing and has learnt a few things:
1) He recognises me and my voice
2) He has learnt to respond to voices, usually by smiling and of course most of the smiles are to me :-)
3) He recognises his milk bottles and will get really excited seeing them. He will kick and wave both his hands and legs till he get his milk.
4) He will coo and ahhh when he's happy.

Will try to capture his smile.

Diffcult to capture his smile

1st day at work

Today is the 1st day where:
1) I wake up at 4.30am to pump (and Ernest decided to fuss earlier, at 5.30am too)
2) I took Ernest to MIL's place before 7.30am
3) I go back to work
4) I pump at work during lunch-time (a bit rush, as I had to eat, pump and clean within an hour)

Overall : Tired but fufilling! Glad to be back at work :-)

I am on total EBM

One accomplishment yesterday was that Ernest was on total Express Breast Milk (EBM) yesterady :-) Wonder if I can keep up my supply once I start work? Perservence!!!!!

I have NOT been here before

Brought Ernest to vish Yi-Pos (my mum's sister) on Sat, and guess what? The moment I step into the room, where all the Yi-Pos are, he pout and cried. Hahahaaaaa... Guess he's a bit uncomfortable with the new environment and noise.

I am NOT feeling well

Had quite a bad experience feeding him on sat. Usually he jus drink he milk without fussing, but on sat, he cried while drinking. Then SIL advisee that he got too much wind in stomach, so learnt how to massage from her. So since that day, been dilligently massaging him with Ru Yi Yu before each feed and feding him anti-wind medicine.

*Sigh* The things mothers do.....

Breast Pump

Well, been surfing the net and realise that if I intend to BF (at least till 6 months), the best pump (according to the web) seems to be Avent ISIS Duo Pump. Hmmmmmm... still comptemplating whether to invest in Avent or Medela PIS.

Any advice from mummies?

I am curious

Well, one sign that my boy is growing. His feeding time is lengthen.... from 10 mins to 30 mins. He spend 10 mins eating and the rest of the time looking around, turning his head, kicking his legs, stretching his body, while poor me holding onto the milk bottle, carefully balancing him and the milk bottle and praying hard that he finish his milk FAST!!!!

He starts to recognise my voice and will respond (sometimes by smiling) and turn his head towards me. Well, a reward of motherhood, and one for spuring me on. Guess going to miss his smile when I go back to work.

ML shortened

I have decided, after encouragement from MIL and JY, to go back to work after 2 months and take the rest of the one month one day by one day :-)

This is because:
1) I am bored at home, not that I have a lot of idling time or I am not tired looking after Ernest, but I need some intellectual stimulation of the brain, rather than baby talk for the whole day.
2) I can use the rest of the ML for his injection or anything urgent.
3) Working is eaiser than taking care of baby, less emotional taxing (other than office politics)

I wlll be returning to work next week, should be next Friday, so I must go shopping more often before next Friday.

Life is good after installing Sarong

Installed Sarong on last Sat, and guess what, Ernest slep through the afternoon, missing his feeds :-p Even though I woke him up, he fell back to sleep. What a sleepy baby I have.

Going to worship whoever is the one who invented Sarong. Ernest quiet down once he is placed in sarong, and will fall asleep after that.

Hope this will continue :-)

Taste of freedom

Well, had my first 'Ernest-free' day yesterday. Sort of mixed feelings.

Sad - cause I miss him..... Kind of like don't know what to do with all the free time. Like the focus of life (at the moment) is suddenly taken away..

Happy - I got all the time in the world (although it is only a day) to do the things I want, can blast the music, can surf net, can do online banking. And I did my pedicure :-) After a month of confinement, finally my toes are presentable again :-)

Well, though Ernest is not with me, but I am not lazing, I have been diligently expressing the milk for him. Want him to have the benefits of breast milk (even though not exclusively) for at least this 3 months (let's see how long I/supply can last).

The moment I reached my in-law's place, I heard him cry, and guess wat? I dashed forward, knocking the maid (who kindly opened the door for me)and Ernest was jus fussing, as MIL took out the milk bottle to adjust the position. Well, guess mother instinct is really kicking in.

Hmmmm.... 6 more days to another Ernest-free day... He he.... Great Singapore Sale, here I come :-)

My experience of Motherhood so far

1st 2 weeks : All hell break loose, there is no day and night, he sleep in the day, and demand feeding at night every hourly or so, and once or twice, from 3am to 6am, carried him to sleep :-( Very tiring, I think I look worst than the Panda. Couldn't tell one cry from another....

2nd week onwards : switched to bottle feed, and could rest while parents take care of him, and has more or less settled down on a schedule. Now JY and I could differentiate the different cries for different needs.

5th weeks : Ernest has learnt to smile and giggle :-) Well, don't think he knows he's smiling or giggling. Kind of scary at first, in the middle of his sleep, he jus giggle. He also learnt to pout... Wonder who he picked it up from? And he also got startled by the 'Zzzz Monster' in the middle of his sleep. I have gotten used to his schedule and could handle him alone. But I declare 'me time' every Wednesday :-) as I need a break from him to remain my sainity and also not to struggle him too much.

Well overall motherhood is full of ups and downs, guess a lot of things are out of my expectations. Hmmmmm I never did enough homework before birth *Sigh*

My precious : Ernest Yong

Long time never blog, as the PC at Mummy's place was down. Well, Ernest is born on 10 Apr, 6.40pm with a weight of 3.5kg (now he's weighing at 4.77kg, at 50th percentile). And I am now more or less settle down as a new mum..

Motherhood is really not easy.. Or maybe I was too idealistic in the past?

Got to go, feeding time approaching.

10 Apr

Thanks for all the concern. But this morning, I had a leg cramp which 'cripple' me for the whole morning..... This make me even more sure that Ernest better come out fast!!!!!

Start drinking the rasberry tea, which Amelia recommended. Taste good! :-) Hopefully Ernest will be out before 10 Apr... then I don't need to go through the 12 hours of induction.

Heard about inducing from JY's colleague, and getting a bit of cold feet :-(

Mikel Kor Kor

Went over to Pauline's place to take the Rasberry tea yesterday and managed to take a not bad shot of smiley Mikel:

I don't want to be out but you have to!!!!

I went to gynae check up today.... And guess what. Did a 40 min fetal heartbeat and contraction test, and there is not a slight contraction at all... Guess Ernest is not ready to be out, but Gynae listed a whole list of negative things, which will probably happen to post dated delivery..

So JY and I decided that if Ernest is not out by 10 Apr, we will go for induce on 10 Apr ;-)

So Ernest... U have no choice!!!!

38 weeks

Well, went for check up yesterday, and did a scan. I put on another 0.5kg, so the total is 17kg :-(

As for Ernest, the scan shows that he's around 3kg, which means he has put on 1kg in 1 month...... Wow... I think I need to control my diet, no deep fried and less carbohydrate.

And my legs is a bit swollen :-( That's means it's near... So exciting.....

Monday, March 24, 2008

Summary so far

On me:
1) I have put one another 2 kg, that make it a total of 16.5kg :-(
2) I am becomming more and more tired... sleeping the whole day is not enough!!!!
3) It is getting warmer and warmer.... I can perspire even when standing still in the open. I need a portable air con!!!!!
4) I am a buffalo now, drinking water non-stop, but thank goodness my feet are not so obviously swollen yet (keeping my fingers cross on that)

On Ernest:
1) He's an night owl, like JY, kicking most vigorously in the evening and night. Even JY was amazed at how the whole tummy moved....
2) He likes to stretch.... more to my left, don't know why...
3) He's head on my bladder cause I can never survive half an hour without a trip to the toilet.
4) His favourite sound is people's laughter, but must be loud and long....

On the preparation:
1) Over the weekend, we have shifted all the necssity to mummy's place and all the baby's clothes to our place, now just need time for me to wash the clothes, as I have sorted them out according to months :-)
2) Gynae made a comment which JY and I found it funny, we have to visit her once every week now, if I am not due yet. Well.... perhaps it is a norm for them to say that.

That's all for now, as I am busy briefing colleagues on covering my duties while I am on 3 months maternity leave :-)

Sleepness night from now on

Well, I guess it is confirmed, haven't been sleeping well for the past 3 nights. At first I thought it is too much Caffine (tea for my case) but it is not. Just like this morning, I woke up at 3 am and couldn't sleep till 6am. Well, maybe should find out what's available on the cable to keep myself occupied :-)

And Ernest is getting very easily excitied. His kicks are more and more vigorous, literally, cause you can also see the movement from outside.

Sorting out the clothes

Well, it used to be my favourite pastime, but it is not an easy task. Finally gathered all the generous hand-downs of clothes, accessories and toys from Relatives. It is really a back-breaking task to go through all the things.

While going through the clothes, it is a reminder how disappointing that I am not having a girl. See how cute the ribbons, the colours and the cartoons are. *Sigh* But on the bright side, I won't need to spend much on hair accessories and clothings :-)

Packing my bag

Well, I am not calling it quit, but I am getting ready for Ernest's arrival :-) I am packing my bag to the Hospital :-) It is only 4 weeks left and Ernest will 'popping'.

Well, just going through my list again and again to ensure that I don't leave anything out. And well, going through my shopping list too, hopefully I have gotten everything ready for Ernest.

Very excited!!!!! It is something which no matter how much reading or classes you attend, there will always be a 'Oops! I didn't know that.'

Friday, March 7, 2008

35 weeks now :-)

Went for Gynae check-up yesterday. Well, all is well. Gynae told me that from next week (36th week) onwards, baby is considered full term, so anytime from next week till 10 Apr I will expect contraction.

I can't believe it. I mean I want Ernest to be out, but when the moment is near, it is such a mix feelings. It is just that I have a lot of things not done yet. I haven't clean up my place and the 'Baby Room'.

Oh.. a sure way to get Ernest to dance is to blast the nursery rythmes. He will jerk and move the whole night after that. Good to get him to do some exercise before he 'pops'.

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

One more month left

Approximately one month left.... Seems like yesterday that I was holding the toilet bowl and vomiting whole day. Time files, and I really wish to know how Ernest looks like, more like JY or me, or a mixture of both of us, or like our siblings.

So far so good, feet not swollen yet and I can still fit into my shoes :-)

Minus points (why I hope the pregnancy will end soon):
1) Leg cramps at night is keeping me awake, as I will be so conscious about it, to really have my deep slumber.
2) Frequent visit to toilet, do I need to elaborate on this?
3) Uncomfortable seating position, I will need to bring a portable pillow to sit comfortably in the bus soon.

Though got 3 minus points, but I am still enjoying my pregnancy, at least a valide excuse not to carry heavy stuff, not to do housework and not to overwork. :-)

14 Feb : Ernest is 8th Month Now

Went to gynae check up yesterday and Ernest is 1.8kg, and the average weight for 8th Month is 2kg. So I have not overfed him :-) And his body average diameter is 84mm, which is soooooo small....

I have gained another 5kg, despite my cough, so that's a total of 11.5kg for the past 8 months. A bit off my target to cap at 12kg..... Well, but must fatten Ernest up a bit first.

Active Baby

This CNY is not fun at all... I have been since before CNY and throughout. So I couldn't run a few places at a go. Lost my voice totally and spent CNY drinking only plain water and light food. NO CHINESE GOODIES!!!!

Today went to KKH 24-hr woman's clinic as I couldn't sleep a wink due to my cough and my abdominal hurts when I cough. Poor JY, couldn't sleep too. As I am in my 3rd trimester, they refer me to the Labour Ward. There, they trace Ernest's heartbeat for 20 mins. Well, for others, it is 20-mins but for me, it is around 40 mins. They put 2 probles and strap it down so that can do the recording. According to the nurse, Ernest is very active, couldn't trace his heartbeat properly for a period of time. So in the end I got to lie down for 20 more mins, with the nurse next to me to 'run' after Ernest to get the heartbeat.

Well, at least Ernest is active and well. Not affected by my persistent cough.

Thursday, January 31, 2008

Touch 'ME' Not

Ernest is very sensitive to touch.... I was lazing around in the afternoon yesterday and rested my hand on him. Guess what? He pushed back..... not once but twice...

Hmmmm.... doesn't like extra weight on him?

And guess his metabolism is taking over... I perspire every moment.... :-(

More air-con and less walking for me now.

Feelings of Guilt

I felt so guilty on Sunday night. I don't know what happened, after dinner, I just don't feel good. And I think Ernest could feel it too, for he somersult throughout the evening till I throw up everything I have eaten.

Poor poor Ernest, he kicked sooooooooo hard and frequent that I felt so guilty. I must have taken too much junk food that's why I don't feel good.

Must watch my intake of food from now on.

Must compliment JY, he cut frutis for me to eat right after I vomit. Though I couldn't eat much, his effort is much appreciated.

Bye 2007! Hello 2008

It has been a long time since I have blogged.... Just want to summarise what is Ernest's update for 2007 and what will be for the coming 2008

For 2007:
1) My waistline is expanding :-(
2) His kick is getting more and more powerful till I couldn't sleep :-(
3) Everyone is the family is excited and sort of looking forward to his birth (Me esp)
4) A lot of cleaning and clearing to make space for Ernest.

For coming 2008:
1) Hopefully it is a painless labour :-p or rather with no assistance from chemical
2) It is getting more and more diffcult to move around
3) He is more involved in my posture, if he doesn't like a position, he will kick till I shift.
4) He doesn't like heat. Will kick very hard when I am cooking.... Next time I must wear fireman suit to cook.
5) Most importantly, hope Ernest will be a healthy and happy baby :-)
